MINECRAFT is the most popular game on the planet, with over 300 million copies sold and being played by millions every single day.

The game can be found on just about every platform, including PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PC, iOS, and Android, and offers cross-play multiplayer between platforms.

But it’s grown beyond just a video game, with a live-action Minecraft movie in the works with Jack Black set to star in a leading role.

Now, to expand the franchise even further, developer Mojang is teaming up with Netflix to create a new animated series.

As part of celebrations for the 15th anniversary of Minecraft, the two companies have announced a new animated streaming series based on the video game.

The series is set to feature an original story with new characters, and it’s promised that the series will show the world of Minecraft in a new light.

The Minecraft Netflix series will use CG animation from Wildbrain, the animation studio behind other animated Netflix series like Sonic Prime and Carmen Sandiego, both of which were also based on video games.

No details have been announced, including a release date or plot details, but it’s said that the series is in development, and it likely won’t be long before we know more.

The new series will be available exclusively on Netflix, and it’s expected to be exclusive to Netflix in just about every region in which Netflix is available.

This isn’t the first time Minecraft has crossed over into the storytelling field, having previously had interactive media experiences developed by Telltale Games, called Minecraft: Story Mode.

Minecraft also collaborated with David Attenborough’s Planet Earth earlier this year, with content in-game in the Education edition of Minecraft, aimed specifically at students.
