When Prince William and Princess Kate get the opportunity to go head to head in any kind of sporting competition, they never miss out on it. Royal fans love to see the future King and Queen indulge their competitive sides, but they aren't always entirely gracious when they manage to best their spouse.
Both athletic and sporty, the pair have taken each other on publicly in a wide range of challenges over the years: from spinning to sailing, but their competitiveness really knows no bounds and has even extended to cake decorating and pancake flipping challenges.
While Kate and William often amuse onlookers with their highly competitive antics, one occasion in particular left royal fans in stitches as Kate showed her witty side.
The pair were in New Zealand on an official royal tour back in 2014 when they snapped up the opportunity to compete in the sport.
They each boarded an Emirates Team New Zealand Americas Cup yacht, before racing each other around Auckland Harbour - but ahead of the race, the weather turned and it started pouring with rain, leading the two royals to cheekily comment they must have brought the UK's weather along with them, per Hello Magazine.
Meghan Markle 'to unleash her own memoirs' as Prince Harry's drops next weekThe lighthearted race had reportedly been at the request of Prince William - and it's something the two keen sailors have recreated a few times over the years. On this occasion, Kate was the victor, with Hello reporting, "As an experienced sailor who has practised regularly with her family in the Solent and has worked previously as a deckhand, Kate was in her element.
"She worked the yacht with Dean Barker, Team New Zealand skipper, and looked completely in control as she steered the boat, much to spectators' delight."
That day Kate won not once but twice, and even gave a "cheeky mock salute" to her husband before smiling and shrugging smugly at him. In light of his loss, William jokingly cried out "we were sabotaged!" when he was back on dry land.
When someone close by said that Kate was looking pretty pleased with herself after her victory, the future King quipped "I bet she is!" according to the Daily Mail.
