A CHEAP, fast car that was dubbed "supremely comfortable" by Jeremy Clarkson can be picked up for under £11,000, it has been revealed.

The popular hatchback was discontinued almost a decade ago after a limited production run but is still surprisingly affordable today.

The BMW 1-Series M135i was only made between 2012 and 2016 but received generally favourable responses from petrolheads.

Reviewing the hot hatch in 2012 for the Sunday Times, former Top Gear star Clarkson said: "It has a supremely comfortable driver’s seat, an excellent steering wheel, impossibly Germanic controls and a perfect driving position.

"Get in and, no matter what age has done to your frame, you will immediately feel at one with the machine.

"You will never go round a corner trailing smoke from its out-of-shape rears . . . but it’s nice to know you could.

"And because it’s rear-wheel drive, the front wheels don’t have to multitask.

"They have only to worry about steering, which means the car feels balanced.

"Hate this car? Then you hate driving."

Despite all that praise, the Beemer has seen some pretty significant depreciation over the years.

Back in 2012, it cost a solid £29,995, equivalent to about £41,000 today.

And yet one second-hand listing, for a 2013 model with 91,101 miles on it, puts it at just £10,800.

For your money, you get a hell of a lot of car, with a top speed of 155mph roaring from its 315 horsepower inline-six.

However, Clarkson did have just one complaint about the model.

He explained: "I do wish BMW would reserve that M badge for cars that have come from its motorsport division, rather than sticking it on anything that’s a bit faster than usual.

"The M135i may say M on the back.

"But if you look underneath, there’s no limited-slip diff, so it isn’t an M car, really.

"Unless the M here stands for marketing."

It comes after the car described as "the most comfortable in the world" by the Grand Tour host went up for sale for just £5,000.
