Harry Maguire wants to continue his Manchester United career, regardless of who is in charge of the club.
Erik ten Hag's future remains up in the air at Old Trafford after the club defeated Manchester City in the FA Cup final. Reports broke ahead of that fixture that the decision had been made to sack the Dutchman regardless of the outcome of the match, though there has yet to be any confirmation from the club.
Maguire is desperate to remain with the 13-time Premier League champions in spite of the uncertainty, report the Sun. The former Leicester City star has one year remaining on his current contract and is set to discuss his future with club chiefs this summer.
The 31-year-old is keen to extend his stay so long as he is wanted, having initially signed for the side in 2019 for £85million. United are said to hold an option to be able to see his contract last until 2026.
Maguire endured a difficult period following the arrival of Ten Hag in 2022. The defender was removed as captain last summer and found playing time more difficult to come by following the arrival of Lisandro Martinez.
Premier League odds and betting tipsThe defender didn't start in the Premier League until October this season, but injuries conspired to ensure Maguire became an important figure. Ultimately Maguire featured 31 times across the season, though was limited by a calf injury.
After United's worst Premier League finish, the veteran is not surprised about the uncertainty surrounding the the club this summer. He told The Sun : “It is what happens when you play for this club.
"If you don’t get good results, players get scrutinised, players get linked with a move away. They get sold, put on the transfer list and the manager will come under pressure.
"I have been here five years now so I know what happens. The manager is experienced enough to know it is part and parcel of being at this club. I am sure he can deal with that."
Maguire was unable to return to fitness in time to feature in Man United's FA Cup final success and next will hope to be injury free in time for EURO 2024. The defender was included in Gareth Southgate's preliminary squad off 33 players that will be whittled down to 26 before the start of the tournament.
