New Bayern Munich boss Vincent Kompany has told the club’s top stars: Prepare to get aggressive.

And he’s told Harry Kane and co that he is already targeting next season’s Champions League Final - which will be played in Munich.

Kompany swapped Burnley for Bavaria on Wednesday, when his move from the relegated Clarets to the German powerhouse was confirmed. The two clubs agreed a compensation fee, believed to be in the region of £10.2million, to see the Belgian succeed Thomas Tuchel.

Kompany emerged as the leading contender to take charge in Bavaria after a number of big names - most notably Xabi Alonso - rejected the role, and despite Burnley’s relegation from the Premier League.

The ex-Manchester City defender will be tasked with taking Bayern back to the top of the German game after seeing their decade-long Bundesliga dominance torn apart during a tumultuous season of in-fighting throughout the club. Alonso’s unbeaten Bayer Leverkusen took full advantage to win their first-ever German title.

And Kompany, speaking at his unveiling on Thursday, insisted: "I grew up on the streets of Brussels, in Anderlecht's academy. You have to be a team, I want my players to have courage, I want us to be aggressive.

“I want us to play like that, that's also my character. We want to keep that up for entire games."

And he added: “I know what a big club Bayern is. I'm proud, but also very motivated to be here. As far as I'm concerned, the season can start straight away."

Kompany will have England captain Kane to call upon next term, with Kane having scored a remarkable 44 goals in 45 games despite Bayern’s difficulties during his debut season in Germany.

"I'm extremely motivated every day and have the goal of making the lads better,” said Kompany. “Bayern is a great club, I want to take everyone with me on this journey. I don't just want to have the best players, but also the best team."

"We want to win every game, always. That must always be our priority. Of course, the Champions League final is in Munich in 2025. But we won't achieve that by talking about it, we'll have to work hard for it every day in training."
