Floyd Mayweather delivers verdict on Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson fight

Floyd Mayweather has praised Jake Paul ahead of his controversial fight with Mike Tyson.

Heavyweight icon Tyson fights influencer-turned-boxer Paul on July 20 at the 80,000 seat Dallas Cowboys stadium in Texas. Tyson hasn't competed in a professional fight since retiring on his stool against journeyman Kevin McBride in 2005 whilst Paul has put together a professional record of 9-1 since taking up boxing four years ago.

Mayweather and Paul aren't on the best of terms and have clashed on several occasions over the past few years, but the boxing legend thinks the YouTuber's fight against Tyson is a good business move. “What he’s doing is kinda cool. If he can continue to steal money and they match him the way they match him, I can’t knock his hustle," Mayweather told Treasure Hustle.

"If they can match him the way that they have been, more power to him." Tyson suffered a health scare earlier this week whilst onboard a flight as he felt dizzy and nauseous because of an ulcer flare up. The former heavyweight champion has since said he is doing fine and his fight against Paul will go ahead.

Tyson and Paul's fight will be contested over eight, two-minute rounds and both men will wear 14oz gloves in the ring. Tyson hasn't fought since going eight rounds with fellow legend Roy Jones Jr in an un-scored exhibition fight four years ago, an event that Paul also fought on when he KO'd NBA star Nate Robinson.

'Iron Mike' has been told that he is at risk of suffering a brain injury in the fight by Nathan Howarth, Development and Operations Director at the Concussion Legacy Foundation UK. "Boxing has an inherent risk of concussion, there’s an increased risk of traumatic brain injury we have seen like bleeds on the brain," he told Betway.

"I’m not saying there is any evidence that as an older fighter, Mike would be at risk of that, however, we do know the impacts of subclinical concussions. It’s particularly important for someone like Mike Tyson who has had a long period of time in the sport anyway."
