A British pensioner has been arrested on suspicion of the attempted murder of his wife in Greece.
The 87-year-old man allegedly tried to suffocate the 89-year-old woman with a pillow yesterday in Paleo Faliro, around 7km (around 4.3miles) west of Athens city centre. The woman was taken to the Janeio hospital for treatment, local media has reported. Her condition is currently unknown.
It is believed police found the woman lying naked on the bed in the apartment. It is alleged officers arrived because the man told one his neighbours what he had done.
The man was arrested on Sunday. No information has been released regarding the motive. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
Paleo Faliro is a town on the Saronic Gulf coast, popular with tourists after it was redeveloped for the 2004 Summer Olympics. It now contains a seaside promenade, several sports venues, and a marina.
