OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is facing a lawsuit over alleged sexual abuse

Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, is accused of sexual abuse by his sister Ann in a federal lawsuit. She seeks damages for emotional distress and medical bills.

Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, is facing a lawsuit filed by his sister, Ann Altman, who accuses him of sexually abusing her over a span of nearly a decade. The lawsuit, which was filed in federal court on Monday, claims the abuse began when Ann was just three years old and continued into her adolescence. Ann, now 30, alleges that the abuse persisted throughout their childhood in Missouri during the late 1990s and early 2000s.

In the legal filing, Ann Altman asserts that Sam Altman, now 39, manipulated and sexually abused her during their formative years. She contends that the abuse occurred when she was a child and persisted even when Sam was an adult, with the last alleged incident taking place while she was still a minor.

Ann Altman has previously made similar claims on social media, where she publicly accused her brother of sexual abuse. The lawsuit, filed under the case name *Altman v. Altman* in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri, seeks damages for emotional distress, highlighting the lasting impact on her mental health. She also claims to be facing significant medical expenses as a result of the trauma she has endured.

In response to the allegations, Sam Altman denied the accusations. On Tuesday, he issued a statement on social media platform X, on behalf of himself and his family, calling the claims "utterly untrue." The statement expressed the pain the situation has caused his family and vehemently rejected the allegations.

Sam Altman is well known for his role as the CEO of OpenAI, the organization behind the development of the widely popular artificial intelligence tool, ChatGPT. OpenAI’s success in the AI sector, particularly with the launch of ChatGPT in late 2022, has made Altman a global figure. His entrepreneurial ventures, including his investments in Silicon Valley startups, have contributed to a net worth estimated at over $2 billion, according to Bloomberg. The lawsuit comes under Missouri’s legal framework, which allows survivors of childhood sexual abuse to file claims until the age of 31. Ann Altman, having reached this age, is now pursuing legal action, seeking both financial compensation and justice for the alleged trauma she has experienced. The case is registered under the docket number 4:25-cv-00017 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri (St. Louis).
