Still Game legend Jimmy Martin dies at 93

Still Game legend Jimmy Martin has died.

The 93-year-old’s death was announced by Bafta award-winning director Michael Hines.

He wrote on X: ‘Just to let all the #StillGame fans out there that Jimmy Martin ‘Eric’ passed away today.

‘He was a wonderful actor and I was honoured to call him pal.’

Talent agency Red Shoe Entertainment also posted: ‘We are deeply saddened to share the news that Jimmy Martin, the beloved actor known for playing Eric in Still Game, has passed away.

‘His warmth, humour, and unforgettable performances brought joy to so many, and his legacy will live on through the laughter he shared with the world.

‘Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and all who loved him. Rest in peace, Jimmy. Red Shoe Entertainment x.’

Martin played Eric in Scottish BBC sitcom Still Game, which also starred Ford Kiernan and Greg Hemphill as lead characters Jack Jarvis and Victor McDade.

Their characters returned to screens after first appearing in previous sketch show Chewin’ the Fat, which aired from January 1999 to December 2005.

Martin was one of the few actors who actually was a pensioner during Still Game, and appeared in 46 episodes.

He also starred in mini series Saving Hearts, an episode of Lovesick, and 2011 film Hattie.

Still Game aired between 2002 and 2019, and won several awards including best TV show at the Scottish Comedy Awards in 2015, 2017, and 2019, as well as several Bafta Scotland awards.
