A baby was tragically found dead at a family daycare center after "neighbors heard screams" — as police investigate the mysterious death.

Emergency services were called to a home on Balinga Dr in Skye in south-east Melbourne shortly after 2 p.m. on Wednesday, following the discovery of a deceased baby. Despite the efforts of paramedics, the baby sadly could not be revived at the scene.

The daycare center has been cordoned off by police as they investigate the death after multiple neighbors of the property heard screams coming from the daycare center. At least six police cars were seen outside. The cause of death is currently unknown.

According to local media, the daycare is operated from a private home and cares for a small group of babies each day. It is currently listed as "exceeding" national standards, with the facility licensed and government-regulated.

"Police will prepare a report for the coroner following the death of an infant at a family daycare facility in Skye," read a police statement. "An investigation into the circumstances is ongoing but the death is not being treated as suspicious."
