Russia attacks Kyiv with missiles: nine killed, dozens injured, including children

Russian invading forces attacked Kyiv and the region overnight on Thursday, April 24, using "Shahed" type strike UAVs, as well as "Kalibr" cruise missiles and ballistic missiles. In the Sviatoshynskyi district of the capital, a residential building was partially destroyed, with reports of nine dead and 63 injured, including children and a pregnant woman.

Debris from downed enemy targets was recorded in five districts of the city, and searches for people under the rubble of buildings are ongoing. Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klychko reported the details on Telegram, as did the State Emergency Service.

 

Preliminary data indicates that fires broke out at six locations (garages, houses, cars) in the Sviatoshynskyi district. Among the injured is a three-year-old girl who was hospitalized. People may be trapped under the rubble. Rescuers and dog handlers were working at the attack site.

In the Holosiivskyi district, cars were on fire, and in the Shevchenkivskyi district, fires broke out in non-residential buildings, with fires and destruction also recorded in the Podilskyi district.

"In the Holosiivskyi district, there was likely drone debris falling near a residential building. Garages are also burning in this area. At another location - cars. In the Shevchenkivskyi district, debris hit a non-residential building. In the Sviatoshynskyi district, preliminarily, a building fire. Cars are burning in the yard of another building. In the Shevchenkivskyi district, garage fires occurred due to falling debris," Klychko wrote.

According to preliminary data from the SES as of 06:06, nine people were killed in Kyiv as a result of the Russian attack. Of the 63 injured residents, 42 were hospitalized, including six children.

Destruction occurred in residential buildings in the capital, where searches for people under the rubble are ongoing. In addition, fires have broken out in garages, administrative and non-residential buildings.

Due to falling debris from enemy targets, cars and dry grass caught fire. Firefighters extinguished the fire.

In the morning, efforts continued to address the aftermath of the nighttime shelling in five districts of the capital. Psychologists and dog handlers from the SES were working.

Consequences of shelling in the Kyiv region

The consequences of Russian shelling were also recorded in three districts of the Kyiv region, as reported by the head of the RMA, Mykola Kalashnyk.

In the Bucha district, a five-story residential building was damaged, and a fire broke out in a store.

In the Vyshhorod district, a forest fire emerged, and in the Brovary district, a grass fire started.
