Police are investigating a fire that broke out at Keir Starmer’s home in the early hours of the morning.

The Prime Minister has thanked the brave firefighters who responded to the blaze, which followed a "loud bang" outside his £2 million townhouse in North West London.

Met Police are investigating the cause of the fire - which was swiftly brought under control.

London Fire Brigade responded to calls of flames at 1.11AM today

The LFB confirmed there was "damage" to the front of the £2million townhouse.

The PM - who now lives in his official residence at 10 Downing Street - unveiled his immigration overhaul in a press conference hours after the early-hours blaze took place.

Met Police officers were called to the scene at 1.35AM after LFB raised the alarm.

Cordons are still in place on the whole road with locals asked for identification before entering with many being turned away.

Police have described it as a “crime scene” but insist no one has been hurt.

One resident told the Sun he heard a “loud bang” on Wednesday and saw a 4x4 catch fire on the opposite side if the road.

Dan Nicholson, 36, said he called police after spotting the vehicle burning.

He told the Sun: “I heard a loud noise and looked out of my window at 3AM and there was a car on fire.

“I called the police and shortly afterwards the fire brigade turned up.

“It was pretty dramatic. It was mad.

“It feels like it might be related to the incident this morning.

“It seems too much of a coincidence.”

He said his brother heard a commotion around 1AM this morning and saw firefighters tackling a fire at the Prime Minister’s house.

A next door neighbour, who didn’t want to be named, said he was awoken in the early hours of the morning to a loud bang.

“It was a loud bang, what sounded like glass shattering. It was scary,” he said.

Another resident, who asked not be named, said she was woken by a bang around 2AM this morning.

The tech worker, 58, told the Sun: “I got woken by a loud noise in the early hours of the morning.

“I looked out of the window and saw flashing lights and heard police sirens.

“There’s been lots of forensics outside all day. It seems like they’re taking it very seriously.”

A No.10 spokesperson said: "The Prime Minister thanks the emergency services for their work

"The incident is subject to a live investigation and we will therefore not be commenting further."

A spokesperson for the Met Police told The Sun: "On Monday, 12 May at 01:35hrs, police were alerted by the London Fire Brigade to reports of a fire at a residential address.

"Officers attended the scene. Damage was caused to the property’s entrance, nobody was hurt.

"The fire is being investigated and cordons remain in place while enquiries continue.

"Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 quoting CAD 441/12 May."

A spokesperson for LFB added: " The Brigade was called at 0111 and the fire was under control by 0133.

"Two fire engines from Kentish Town Fire Station attended the scene."

It comes as the PM this morning revealed the Government plan to crackdown on migration rules.

He estimated the reforms will cut migration figures by 100,000 per year.

This flagship Immigration White Paper includes a ten-year wait for UK citizenship, as opposed to five years.

Those who graft and pay taxes could also jump the queue for residency rights, while public service workers and top-skilled pros will be fast-tracked.

The language test bar is also set to be raised across all immigration route.

And, migrants will now require a uni degree to gain a skilled worker visa.

Labour also plan to shut loopholes that allow firms to blame a ’skills gap’ to bring in cheap labour.

In the new rules, overseas hiring is due to be banned in the care sector, with roles offered to Brits first.

Plus, every foreign citizen will need official digital ID to stay in the country.

Finally, foreign crooks hiding behind “family rights” to dodge deportation will be kicked out of the country.

The Home Office thinks new measures will improve integration prospects and ensure progression over time.

The PM has also met with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson in Downing Street this afternoon.

They discussed how the UK and Sweden could continue working together to support Ukraine.

The two men spoke in the garden of No.10 before moving inside to the White Room.

Sir Keir said: "I think our relationship is as strong as it has ever been.

"We think alike and act alike, particularly on issues like Ukraine and global affairs."

Mr Kristersson said it was "a sign" that the two men were meeting for the third time in four days, adding it showed "how much we appreciate the way you are acting together with the rest of us in Europe right now".
