Singer Vanessa Rios has died aged 42 after a battle with a rare and aggressive form of lung cancer. The star passed away on Saturday night in a private hospital in Recife, Brazil, where she had been receiving treatment for her condition.

She leaves behind a 16-year-old daughter. Her death was announced on her official Instagram page. Alongside a black and white image of the star with the year of her birth and death was posted the simple comment: "Mourning, forever in our hearts," with a black heart emoji.

Fans were devastated by the announcement and took to the comments to share their grief. "You finished your journey and you will leave a mark in our hearts as the human being and the wonderful artist you were. Those who had the chance to know you closely knew the energy of peace you transmitted. Thank you for the words of affection and encouragement, you were one of the most amazing people I’ve ever met. Rest now my little star," one wrote.

"My condolences. May God give a lot of strength to your daughter, family and all of us. I’m going to miss you. Thank you for everything," another added.

A third chimed in: "May God comfort the heart of the daughter and the whole family. It’s a loss way too early. May God bless you all."

A fourth shared: "Rest in peace. You were light in the lives of many people here and you will be light wherever you are. My condolences to the whole family."

Meanwhile, a fifth penned: "No one can replace the voice of @vanessariosoficial. You have no way, she sang a lot, I followed some performances closely, but she fought a lot to live, I think it’s time to rest, may her soul be in peace, may God comfort friends, relatives, and family."
