Several people were injured on Sunday evening after two passenger trains collided on the main railway corridor between Pezinok and Bratislava, Slovak authorities said.
The crash occurred shortly after 7 p.m. local time, around 20 kilometers (12 miles) northeast of the Slovak capital. Police confirmed that emergency services were dispatched to the site and that rail traffic in the area was temporarily suspended.
According to the state passenger carrier ZSSK, the accident took place shortly after train REX 1814, travelling from Nitra to Bratislava, departed Pezinok station and collided head-on with train Ex 620. The impact caused several carriages to derail.
Local media reported that rescue workers treated multiple injured passengers at the scene, though the total number of casualties has not yet been confirmed.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the collision.
