A hunt is now ongoing to trace his attacker, who fled the scene before the police arrived.

‘Witnesses said they saw a large foreign man stab the British man in the arm,’ the force said in a statement. ‘The victim is now feeling better but is not ready to respond.’

Authorities are now reviewing CCTV footage and questioning witnesses to identify and apprehend the suspect.

Lt Col Kittipong admitted that they still do not have a description of the man as ‘visibility at the beach was poor at the time,’ local media reported.

The incident follows a series of recent tourist deaths in Phuket, which has raised concerns about safety and security.
