Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce was the star of the show on Saturday night, but this time it was not out on the field.

The tight-end was named as an unlikely host of Saturday Night Live, and switched his attention to comedy as he produced a hilarious five-minute monologue to kick-off the show. Kelce has never been shy behind the mic, and often puts broadcasters on the edge when conducting interviews as he's known for his comedic outbursts.

With his family in the crowd, including brother Jason, Kelce spoke about his recent Super Bowl success and couldn't help but poke fun at the Philadelphia Eagles star. But Kelce also had fans in stitches with an impression of quarterback Patrick Mahomes - and it's fair to say his comedy debut went down very well.

"It's great to be here," he said to the cheering crowd when hosting SNL. "If you don't know, I just won my second Super Bowl. Which was amazing, but for me, hosting SNL is that much better, baby!

"I'm lying to you all. I'm lying, I'm kidding. Winning the Super Bowl was way better. But seriously, I'm honoured that SNL asked me to host."

Kelce then addressed the Super Bowl success over the Philadelphia Eagles, but not before delivering a perfect impression of Mahomes which has already gone viral online. "Probably the coolest thing about this Super Bowl is that my whole family was there," Kelce then added.

"I got to play against my brother Jason, who is an Eagle. And my mom was on TV more than both of us. My mom, dad and brother are all here tonight.

"You know, people keep asking me what it was like to beat my brother in the Super Bowl. And it was pretty awkward. Especially because after the game we had to ride home together.

"Our mom drove us there in a minivan. Just like the good old days. Even though his team lost after being up 10 points at half, my brother is actually really happy for me."

Kelce is not the first NFL star to host the show, as the recently retired JJ Watt did so in February 2020. It was Fran Tarkenton back in 1977 that became the first to do so, and since then even Tom Brady and brothers Peyton and Eli Manning have been given the honour.

The Chiefs star and his brother Jason have been running a successful podcast for some time, and it's clear to see that it's been great practice. It's unlikely to be his last appearance on live TV, especially following the positive fan reaction online.
