If it's one thing, the developers who built these flats have at least made good use of space.

Built right in the middle of a small roundabout, this development looks like an odd picture to approaching drivers.

Waunllwyd flats sits square (of perhaps circle) in the centre of the junction on a road in Penywaun, Wales, housing up to nine families.

Far from your usual roundabout boasting all but a few trees or advertising signs, the flats can be accessed from four different paths at street level - once you've navigated the encircling traffic.

One resident, named Chelsea, said living in the flats was "hard work" at times, especially when having to work around the onslaught of traffic when taking her young daughter to school.

"It's a bit strange. I've lived here for two years, and you just get used to it," the resident told WalesOnline.

Only two of the nine flats have direct access, while the others can only be reached from inside a lobby.

And with no parking on the kerb, residents also have to leave their cars on the other side of the surrounding road.

But being a roundabout, the moat-like road has no pedestrian crossings meaning getting there is often a game of waiting and running.

Chelsea, who did not give her full name, added: "The cars come down the hill at a pace, she said, "and the school buses too, because there's a comprehensive nearby, so there's about 10 school buses."

The mum said that, due to the odd location right in the middle of a busy junction and with no proper garden, she never let her daughter play outside and "couldn't wait" to eventually move.
