Former Premier League star Ben Foster is already loving life back out of retirement at Wrexham AFC, and was almost in tears of laughter before winning 5-1 against Oldham Athletic on Saturday.

Foster is already a hero at Wrexham after coming out of retirement to help them see out the season following an injury to goalkeeper Rob Lainton. He's quickly become a popular figure in the dressing room, especially as Wrexham are within touching distance of clinching the National League title and returning to the Football League.

The goalkeeper has been vlogging his time at Wrexham to his YouTube channel, including footage from matches, training, and in the latest video there was a bizarre story shared by midfielder Andy Cannon. The 27-year-old claimed to have seen a lion while driving on a motorway, and Foster included the story in his vlog while howling with laughter.

As the team sat down for breakfast before facing Oldham, Cannon had a wild story to tell about the night before. The midfielder claimed to have seen a lion while driving the previous evening, and Foster couldn't help but whip his camera out.

"I was driving on a national speed limit road about half seven at night, and hazard lights were on for this big van with a cage on the back," Cannon said on Foster's matchday vlog. "Soon as I was driving down I was wondering why the hazards were on.

"So I slowed down, drove past it and as I was driving I was thinking 'what's that in the road?' Cars on the opposite side of the road were slowing down. I've looked, and as I'm going past it I swerved to the side of it, this is where everyone is going to think I've lost the plot.

"It was a lion. This is no banter by the way. It was a female lion, because I was looking up all lions after. It was 100 percent a female lion."

The bizarre story went down a treat within the Wrexham squad, but has also picked up attention online as fans couldn't help but react to Cannon's claim. There have been no reports of a lion sighting on any roads near Wrexham over the past few weeks, but Cannon was convinced.

Cannon has been an instrumental figure at Wrexham since signing from Hull City in 2022, and has valuable experience at this level after helping Stockport County earn promotion from the National League last season. Wrexham are three points clear of Notts County with just six games to go, and have a game in hand.
