Rishi Sunak has admitted that he worries about his young daughters being exposed to harmful online content.

The Prime Minister, who has two daughters, Krishna and Anoushka, said new legislation to crack down on vile material online would give parents vital peace of mind.

He told journalists travelling with him on a trip to the US: “My elder daughter just got her own phone last year.

“A big moment in our house and it brings home exactly what's going on every time I see her on it.

“And every parent will feel the same.”

The new Online Harms Bill will beef up the regulator Ofcom to give it power to regulate what children are exposed to, he said.

“That's absolutely the right thing to do. I think we should give parents peace of mind and reassurance about that.

“That's what I want as a parent, it’s what every other parent wants.”
