MANCHESTER UNITED legend Edwin van der Sar and his family were "harassed and threatened" by yobs before Ajax's derby with Feyenoord, reports suggest.

The Amsterdam giants lost De Klassieker to their Rotterdam rivals with a score of 3-2 at the Johan Cruijff ArenA where some ugly scenes unfolded before kick-off.

According to De Telegraaf, four young and "drunk" men "cornered" Ajax chief executive Van der Sar and his family at the car park.

Security guards intervened and chucked all those fans out of the stadium.

The same report suggests the four supporters confronted the legendary goalkeeper because of his reported intention to reinstate disgraced Arsenal legend Marc Overmars to Ajax's hierarchy.

Overmars quit his role as director of football last year after his history of sexual misconduct came to light.

The former Netherlands international apologised and resigned after allegedly sending inappropriate messages to female colleagues.

Ajax went on to lose to Feyenoord in the derby, which piled on the home side's woes this season.

The visitors opened the scoring after just five minutes with Santiago Gimenez.

But Ajax turned the game on its head with Edson Alvarez's equaliser on 17 minutes and Dusan Tadic's goal 20 minutes later.

But Feyenoord levelled things up in the 52nd minute with Sebastian Szymanski.

And Arne Slot's side picked up the major victory with Lutsharel Geertruida winner just four minutes before full-time.

Ajax are now six points behind high-fliers Feyenoord and the top of the table.

The reigning Eredivisie champions remain second amid a turbulent campaign that saw them sack former manager Alfred Schreuder just a few months after he replaced United boss Erik ten Hag at the helm.

Everton cult hero John Heitinga stepped in to take Schreuder's place as interim boss until the end of the season.
