FRENCH president Emmanuel Macron stands with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping in Beijing — amid accusations he is now a puppet of the Asian nation.

The French President and EU chief Ursula Von Der Leyen had the red carpet rolled out by the rogue nation, where they took part in business discussions and posed up for photos.

Mr Macron used the visit to urge his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping to help stop Russia's war in Ukraine - which he has refused to condemn.

He said last night: "I know I can count on you to bring Russia back to its senses and everyone back to the negotiating table." The tense visit comes after years of deteriorating relations between the West and China over human rights abuses cosying up to other rogue states like Iran and North Korea.

President Xi visited Russia for a full three-day state visit just last month in a show of support.

But European leaders are attempting to engage with China, with similar trips from Germany and Spain in recent months.

MPs called out the Chinese President's fake attempts to be a peacemaker - saying the dictator was just using him for its own gains.

Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Alicia Kearns, said his summit would make no difference to helping end the brutal war, after his similar peace talks with Putin failed last year.

She said: "Over a year ago, Macron met with Putin and then publicly assured allies there would be no renewed illegal invasion. Now he is in Beijing hoping to end Xi’s support of Putin.

"Xi does as Xi wills.

"The CCP will indulge in the propaganda spoils of such a visit, and utilise it to present themselves globally as a peacemaker." And furious Iain Duncan Smith said it was another hopeless attempt at "appeasement" and showed a total "failure to understand China".

He raged: "China is a distinct and dangerous threat to us all - and Xi's so-called peace plan is nothing but a pathetic joke.

"Macron was slowest out of the blocks on Ukraine a year ago - under him they would surely broker an appalling peace.

"All they are doing is kowtowing to China and showing the weakness of the West. "Is Macron fleeing Paris just to figure out how the Chinese control the crowds?"
