The ageing process can really weaken the knees – especially after a career spent leaping on stage.

As they reunite for their 20th-anniversary tour, pop group Busted admit their synchronised jumps now take a bit of a toll on them.

“It is actually going to be harder than it was if we go full throttle,” groans Charlie Simpson, at the ripe old age of 37. “The older you get, the harder it is.”

But fear not: they are not retiring their famous stage moves just yet. “We will jump,” confirms Matt Willis, 39.

“It became a big thing, like ‘the Busted jump’. Every band that we love jumped – it wasn’t us who did it first.”

He adds: “But it became like the Busted ‘thing’ to jump.”

Thankfully, they don’t get harangued to jump so much off stage, unlike their former years. Matt says: “The thing that’s changed is that in interviews now when we have a picture afterwards they don’t say ‘Can you jump?’.”

He adds of the forthcoming tour: “We give everything we’ve got – we need everything on the floor.

“We’re all gonna put our heart and soul into it.”

And knees, of course.

The group, also featuring James Bourne, 39, and whose hits include Year 3000, will be joined by Hanson, New Hope Club and The Tyne on the UK tour this September.

However, the group recently told the Mirror that they "can't guarantee" they will hit the road again after their 15-date tour ends.

James said: "The scary thing is what we will have to look at quite seriously is that in 20 years from now, there's no guarantee that will all still be alive. There's no guarantee and that is really scary because we don't take fans for granted."

"I actually can't believe how many of my friends have died already, I'm quite shocked and we get to celebrate our 20th anniversary," he continued.

"We're lucky that we're in a position to do it and we're lucky that we're healthy to do it. That's the reason to come because there's no guarantee that we'll do anything like this again you never know what's around the corner.

"I just think that this is a chance for us to really give it our best shot like we always would do."

Meanwhile, the trio are planning to re-release some of their famous hits which they have remastered ahead of its release on April 14.
