PADDY McGuinness has dropped a huge hint that Channel 4 are set to bring back a classic comedy – 19 years after its first series.

The popular TV star, 49, starred in Max and Paddy's Road to Nowhere alongside Peter Kay and it roared to success.

The hilarious comedy followed two nightclub doormen, and it was a huge hit on the back of the hugely popular Phoenix Nights.

The hit show saw viewers enjoy a six part series and ever since its disappearance from screens, fans have wanted more.

And 19 years after the series, Paddy has hinted that it could be coming back to screens at last.

As he appeared on Capital Breakfast with Roman Kemp yesterday, the 49-year-old star admitted it is something he and Peter have spoken about and even have scripts.

He said: “We do talk about it and what have you, but, I don't, I can't, I can't see it at the minute, but we never say never, but it's good to talk. Like Max and Paddy for instance, we wrote a couple of Christmas specials, and we still got them.

“And we never got around to doing on for whatever the reason were back in the day. But we've actually got them!”

Paddy then confirmed that there are scripts that are written and ready to go, should they need to be.

But Paddy continued to joke: “These days, I'm inherently lazy. So I like doing as little as possible for as much money as possible.”

Radio presenter Chris Stark jumped in to continuing persuading Paddy, as he added: “But the Christmas special, hang on a minute, like you're sitting on, there's a Max and Paddy that's been made. But your saying you're too...you didn't say lazy?”

Paddy replied: “Lazy…” to which Chris said: “Okay, you said it. You're too lazy to put it out? What do we need to do?”

Paddy explained: “No, the thing is, with anything, if your doing a scripted comedy show, it does take a long time.

“So to do something like, you have literally got to kind of blank out 12 months of your life and genuinely at the moment. I mean, he's on tour. I've got all kinds of stuff going on, and it's just sort of going ‘right, let's get together. Let's get our diaries together. And let's blank out for that time’.”

The Capital FM team said they had 1000s of texts coming in calling for a return of the show, making Paddy laugh.

It’s not the first time they’ve discussed the potential return of Max and Paddy’s Road To Nowhere, with comedic duo Paddy and Peter having teased its return since 2010.

Listen to Capital Breakfast with Roman Kemp, weekdays from 6am – 10am across the UK and on Global Player .
