MARCUS RASHFORD broke Wayne Rooney's long-standing Old Trafford record by scoring in his eighth consecutive home game against Charlton.

The forward equalled the Manchester United legend's feat of seven with his 97th-minute penalty against Everton on Friday evening.

And Rashford broke the 11-year record by scoring twice in the Red Devils' 3-0 victory over Charlton in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals on Tuesday.

Rashford reacted by tweeting a photo of himself and Rooney with a caption that said: "????????❤️@WayneRooney."

Rooney replied: "Class @MarcusRashford . Let’s keep it going….????????????."

And Rashford responded: "Thanks bro ????????."

The record, which Rooney set in February 2012, involves netting in all competitions.

Roo scored 11 times in those seven matches, against Liverpool, Athletic Bilbao, West Brom, Fulham, QPR, Aston Villa and Everton.

Rashford started his run to the record against FC Sheriff in the Europa League and then followed that up with goals against West Ham in the Premier League and Aston Villa in the League Cup before heading to the World Cup.

Rashford continued to be in good form in Qatar for England.

The forward scored three goals for the Three Lions in his five tournament appearances.

Following that break the 25-year-old netted against Burnley in the League Cup and then notched against Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth in the Premier League.

The forward put himself on course to beat Rooney's record with his goal against Everton before achieving the feat four days later.

Rashford's superb form has helped fill the void left by Cristiano Ronaldo when he left the club.

United manager Erik ten Hag wants to sign another forward to add depth to his attacking options - but with Rashford's form, he may not need to break the bank.

The club had been linked with the likes of Cody Gakpo and Joao Felix, but the Dutchman moved to Liverpool, and the Atletico Madrid star has joined Chelsea on loan.
