However, these window accessories can be an absolute nightmare to clean if you don't know how.

Luckily, we've tracked down an expert to share everything you need to know.

How to clean roller blinds

The best method for how to clean roller blinds really depends on how dirty your blinds are.

A quick reminder that roller blinds should be cleaned regularly to prevent dust build-up.

One of the most effective ways to clean your blinds is to vacuum away the dust.

Using the brush attachment, start from the top and move to the bottom, using a left-to-right motion.

Then, fill a bucket with warm water and soap - avoid using any harsh chemicals or bleach as these can discolour the fabric or leave a nasty residue.

Using a damp sponge or cloth, wipe the blinds using a back-and-forth motion, before leaving them to dry for a couple of hours.

Every now and then your blinds may need a deeper clean, meaning you'll have to remove them from the rail.

And the easiest way to do this is by chucking them in the bath.

Start by filling yours with warm water and detergent, before leaving them to soak in the soap solution for a couple of hours.

This should get most of the grime out.

Then, using a soft-bristled brush, scrub any spots that might need a little more attention - and don't forget about the back!

Drain the bath and use a shower head or a bucket to rinse the blinds with clean water.

Then hang them to dry on a curtain rod or washing line - this is key to avoid them smelling damp or growing mould.

A build-up of black mould may require stronger cleaning agents or professional help, so it is best to take action at the first sign of it.

Blinds Direct's Trend Specialist Ana Zuravliova recommends following five simple rules to keep your blinds looking good for as long as possible.

She said: "Number one, clean regularly with a vacuum to avoid dust build-up.

"Two, use a damp, clean cloth to tackle stains quickly.

"Number three, work from the top of the blind working down.

"Four, use silicone spray to clean the mechanical parts but avoid getting it on the fabric.

"[And] five, use soapy water to clean plastic chains/cords but not brass or steal."

How to fit roller blinds

Fitting a roller blind might seem like a tricky task but it's actually a very simple process.

Use a tape measure to size up the distance of the space the blind will be secured to.

Use a pencil to mark where the blinds should be secured.

Most roller blinds these days allow you to decide which side the chain should hang down on.

Decide which way you want the blind to roll down, it can be over or under the roller based on preference.,

Secure the brackets into the wall using a hand drill, then wedge the blind into the brackets and attach the chain to the wall.

How to cut roller blinds

Rather than buying a new set of blinds, save money by cutting the ones you have down to size.

It's a simple process as long as you make the right measurements.

Roll the blinds out completely on a clean surface, and place a couple of heavy objects at each end so it stays flat.

Fit the brackets into the desired position in the window, and use a pencil to mark the perfect place.

Measure the width and length of the window using a sharp pair of scissors, cut your blind in the marked areas, start by cutting off most of the excess, and then even out the edges.

Then test your blinds by holding them up in the window space and make any last-minute trims or adjustments.
