Cop who led Raoul Moat manhunt blasts ITV over new drama

THE cop who led the hunt for killer Raoul Moat blasted ITV yesterday — insisting its new drama about him “should never have been made”.

Sue Sim was Chief Constable of Northumbria Police in 2010 when the gunman went on the run after shooting his ex and murdering her new boyfriend.

She vowed to not watch the three-part show, called The Hunt for Raoul Moat, which starts tomorrow.

And she hit out at producers for failing to speak to the widow of hero cop David Rathband, who was blinded by Moat and later took his own life.

Kath Rathband received only an email from the show’s makers.

Sue, 61, said: “To think that poor woman just got a message like that is awful.

“I don’t think this drama should have been made — it is much too soon.

"But if they are going to make it, they should include everyone.”

Retired Sue added: “I was phoned by a woman from the production company to tell me I would be portrayed in it.

“I said, ‘Do you need facts from me?’. To which she muttered the immortal line, ‘It’s a dramatisation’.”

Moat, 37, saw red after girlfriend Sam Stobbart, then 22, dumped him in prison.

Once out, he blasted her with a sawn-off shotgun, leaving her seriously injured, and killed Chris Brown, 29, in Birtley, Tyne and Wear.

The steroid-crazed bouncer called 999 to say he would hunt down cops — then shot PC Rathband, 42, in the face in his parked patrol car.

The manhunt ended in the market town of Rothbury when Moat shot himself following a stand-off.

Last night, executive producer Jake Lushington insisted it was “not too soon” to make the drama, saying: “A decent amount of time has passed.”

An ITV spokeswoman said Kath Rathband had “declined the offer of any involvement”.
