Tourists heading to a notorious party island have been left unimpressed because it's full of boozy Brits.

Zante in Greece, has long been a firm favourite with young Brits looking to party abroad, thanks to its strip with bars and clubs lining the street and free shots being handed out liberally to young party-goers.

The notorious 18-30s holiday packages to the area are immensely popular among those who want to soak up the Greek sun while letting their hair down.

Throw in the fact that it has amazing beaches, glorious sunshine and cheap hotels, and it's no wonder it's so popular with younger holidaymakers.

According to Party Travel Hard, you can also find cheap pints from £1.77 - and hangover breakfasts are available for a similar price. While it's famous for its party scene, the island is also known for its beautiful scenery, and attracts plenty of tourists. Unfortunately those who visit without intending to party have been left unimpressed.

Janis Hopkins wrote on Tripadvisor: "Absolutely trash, the place is full of sex shops and pubs. Litter also lines the curbs of the road and ruins this beautiful location. The beach if full of litter and it’s very overcrowded.

"Truly ruined by British tourism, there's a sunburn Brit around every corner. The place is infested with Brits which ruins the Greek heritage the island has to offer."

Alison G added: "Dirty, seedy, strip clubs, gentleman’s club, hardly any restaurants or bars open.

"I imagine it is jumping with clubbers in high season but I’m afraid they are welcome to it…"

Tim, from London noted: "Awful backdrop of tacky kebab restaurants and cocktail bars, a thin strip of sand packed with loungers, not the clearest water and lots of beach sellers."

Nick Channing, from Hungary, added: "Great place if you’re a teenager or looking to get wasted. But not particularly clean and littered with rather inebriated tourists."

One person for the Netherlands added: "There is nothing Greek about this street that mainly consists out fast food restaurants and clubs for the young British tourist who likes to get hammered at Laganas."

"Drunk, semi-naked young Brits out looking for cheap drinks and sex," complained an American.

Amidst all of the bad reviews are plenty of positive ones however, with many people leaving enthused by the kind people they met and the lovely beaches.

An Oxford resident wrote: "Beach was lovely, clear waters but very hot sand! We always used the sunbeds at the Fishery Inn which was a British bar and the staff were lovely."

It is not only in Zante where sauced up Brits have attracted negative reviews this year.

In March rowdy Brits were told to stay away from Amsterdam in a new advertising campaign aiming to curb sex and drug tourism.

In a bid to crack down on anti-social behaviour among visitors to the Dutch city, its council has released a digital campaign aimed at 18 to 35-year-old men in the UK.

It is part of a long-running effort to clean up Amsterdam's streets after years of it holding the title of Europe's rowdiest and most liberal party capital.

For decades booze thirsty Brits have been attracted to the city by its relaxed drugs laws, late night strip bars and thriving sex tourism industry.
