SHOCKING footage shows the moment a female racegoer was left injured after being hit by two stampeding horses which veered off course at the Grand National.

The horses charged towards the woman on the first corner at Aintree Racecourse – after their jockeys fell from the saddle further up the course on Saturday.

Unable to stop their speed, Recite A Prayer and Galvin came off the track and ploughed into the woman, sending her crashing to the ground.

Onlookers could be heard shouting "watch out" and "move out the way" before the two horses tripped on the concrete and ploughed into the woman.

Bystander Mugdim Mujakovic, 52, had been filming the race and caught the dramatic moment on camera.

The chauffeur stopped his camera and went over to see if the woman was OK before police took over and gave her first aid.

Mugdim said he heard an ambulance being called and sirens approaching when he left the scene ten minutes later.

Mugdim, from Bath, Somerset, said: “In the distance I saw two jockeys fall.

“I saw the two horses coming towards me. They smashed into the woman.

"It was quite shocking and I was quite shaken myself and stopped filming and went to help.

“The policeman came over and gave her first aid. She was in pain. She couldn’t stand on her foot.

“I heard them radio for an ambulance. I left the scene ten minutes later and heard the sirens coming. It was unreal.

“I’d be surprised if her leg wasn’t broken. Hopefully it’s not.”

Mugdim said he didn’t see what happened to the horses afterwards as everyone was focused on coming to the woman's aid.

He said: “I felt sorry for the woman. And the horses looked so scared."

The Jockey Club said Recite a Prayer was injured during the race, which was won by favourite Corach Rambler, in a statement confirming the death of Hill Sixteen.

A statement from The Jockey Club said: "Sadly, while racing in the Grand National, Hill Sixteen sustained an unrecoverable injury. Our sincere sympathies are with connections.

"Recite A Prayer and Cape Gentleman were assessed on course by our skilled veterinary staff and walked onto the horse ambulance for further assessment in the stables."

The race was also disrupted and delayed by 15 minutes after animal rights protesters gained access to the track leading to 118 arrests.

The trainer for Galvin, George Elliot, confirmed the horse was alive but still receiving medical attention.

A spokesperson for George Elliot trainers said: "He's in an X-ray today and we're seeking further medical attention."

The trainer for Recite A Prayer,  W P Mullins, has been contacted for comment.

A North West Ambulance Service spokesperson added: "We can confirm the female patient was hit and crushed against a concrete bollard by a stray horse. She was taken to hospital for lower leg injuries."
