THEY'VE been the talk of non-league football for a couple of years now.

But Wrexham AFC, backed by superhero movie star Ryan Reynolds and TV pal Rob McElhenney look set to cause a stir in the Football League from next season.

The 'Welcome to Wrexham' documentary saw them gain a legion of new fans, who are desperate for them to climb out of non-league and into the EFL.

While not everyone is on board, it's clear to see the exposure has done wonders for the National League, as well as making players like Paul Mullin into household names.

They were expected to go up this year after more investment into the playing squad.

And they're now on course to do just that and are very short odds to get over the line after a sensational tussle for supremacy with Notts County.

While that was the goal for this season, the owners have been very clear on their main target for the club: Premier League football.

How likely is that?

As it stands just now, playing in the top flight is some way away from where they are at present.

In the short term anyway, they are as big as 25/1 with Ladbrokes to be in the Premier League by the 2028-29 season - so five years from now.

Those odds aren't too big, though it would suggest any dream of the richest league in the world would have to be in the long term goals for now.

In the immediacy, the Red Dragons are a short price to follow up their promotion to League Two with an immediate rise to League One.

They're just 3/1 to make it back-to-back promotions next season.

On the flip side, they are 50/1 to suffer relegation from League Two in their first season back in the football league since 2008.

They'll have another opportunity to mix it with the big boys during next season's FA Cup, with the Welsh side 250/1 to win that particular trophy.

Could this convince stand-in keeper Ben Foster to stay out of retirement? He's 5/6 to prolong his stay at Wrexham to next season.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: "The odds strongly suggest back-to-back promotions are on the cards for Wrexham next season, with Ben Foster odds-on to be a part of things."
