A WOMAN was left in a gutter after being savaged by two "frenzied" white staffies that "turned red with blood".

Locals looked on in horror as the attack unfolded on a residential street in Walton, Liverpool last night.

Two white Staffordshire Terriers attacked the woman after an altercation in the street, leaving her with horrifying injuries.

Another woman, 40, has been arrested on suspicion of owning a dog dangerously out of control causing injury to others and remains in custody.

Both dogs have been detained by police.

Cops were called to Goodison Road, just yards from Everton FC’s Goodison Park stadium, just before 12.30am on Thursday.

The women were given first aid at the scene and taken to hospital with severe injuries where they remain in stable condition.

It’s understood the attacked followed a row inside a house on Ismay Street in which one of the women was attacked by the other.

The row then spilled on to the street, where one of the women was pinned to the ground and mauled by the dogs as the other managed to escape.

Residents who witnessed the attack have told of their horror after seeing the two beasts mauling the women outside a house.

Eye-witness Kevin Cannon, 60 was returning home in his car at the time.

He told The Sun: “I saw one woman come running around the corner waving her arms in the air.

“Then I saw two other women. One on the ground and another standing over her who was shouting, ‘Get them off her!’

“The dogs were really ragging the woman on the floor and she kept screaming for help.

“They pulled her leggings and her top off and she was lying in the gutter half naked.

“She had wounds on her arms, face and neck and was covered in blood. It was terrible.

“I was trying to get them away, but they just carried on.”

Kevin said he tried use his car horn to scare the dogs away but he was forced to get back in his car when one of the dogs came running at him.

He said the woman who appeared to be looking after the dogs told him they didn’t belong to her and she was only “minding” them for someone else.

She told him the dogs attacked after the other two women had rowed and one had been punched.

He added: “One of the dogs was more aggressive than the other.

“If it had been kids involved they wouldn’t have stood a chance because the dogs were so strong.

“The police did a great job and were here really quickly. They bumped one the dogs with their car and it went running off down the road.

Another resident said she also witnessed the attack.

She said: “I saw one of the women on the ground and the dogs were all over her.

“She was screaming and shouting.

“A lady who was standing over her was trying to the dogs away.

“Then I saw a man trying to help her.

"But the whole attacked seemed to last about ten minutes.”

She said the Staffies had lived at the property for some time and sometimes she saw them running in the road.

“I’ve got two children and I keep them in when I see the dogs,” she said.

“I don’t trust the kids being around them.”

Armed police and paramedics including Matrix vans and four ambulances are attending the scene, which has been cordoned off.

A police helicopter hovered overhead as cops searched the area for the escaped dog.

Merseyside Police's Matrix Disruption Unit is a syndicate which responds to gun crime, faction-based criminality and cash-in-transit robberies, as well as other public disorder situations.

Forensic officers are now also present, and a police helicopter is reportedly hovering above the area.

Parents have been walking past the scene in shock and worried for their children's safety, with around 15 police cars and four ambulances at the scene in the early hours.

The attack is the latest in a spate of brutal dog attacks across Britain in recent weeks, with two people killed by hounds so far this year and many more taken to hospital.

Many of the attacks have involved either Staffordshire Terriers or the American Bully breed.

A map has revealed the worst places in the UK for dog attacks - including the spot where there are four maulings a week.

Detective Inspector Neil Dillon, of Merseyside Police, said: “This incident has left two women with serious injuries and will have been an extremely distressing incident for all who witnessed it and our officers who were involved.

"I would like to commend our officers whose quick response and actions stopped this horrific attack from causing any more significant injuries to those involved.

“Our enquiries into the full circumstances of the incident are ongoing, and we have seized the dogs for the safety of the community.

“We have a dedicated team who review all cases concerning dangerous dogs, and are keen to speak to any witnesses who may have seen the incident or these dogs on previous occasions.

"I want to emphasize that dog owners need to be mindful of their dogs' behaviours at all times , particularly when they are in the care of others. If owners or anyone who is looking after any dogs that are liable to be aggressive please make sure they are in a protected space and on a lead or muzzled if out in public.”
