A three-year-old child has been found dead in a washing machine, it has emerged.
The prosecutor's office did not provide further details, or confirm a report in the daily Le Parisien newspaper that the girl was found alive in the washing machine by her father and another family member and died in emergency care an hour later.
A special unit for the protection of minors is leading the probe.
Her dad and another member of the family reportedly found her in the machine during a dinner.
The washing machine had not been switched on but its doors shut automatically, according to reports.

There was no trace of violence on the girl's body and an autopsy will be performed on the child's body.
The girl's 48-year-old dad, aged 48, said the door of the appliance was closed and it had not just turned.
