THE Inbetweeners actor James Buckley has revealed he is set for a TV comeback after landing his first telly role in 5 years.

The actor, 35, - who is best known for playing potty-mouthed Jay Cartwright in the iconic E4 comedy series - shared his big career news on social media today.

He teased his mystery new role, sharing a snap of a clapperboard, which James had purposely blanked out the name of the top-secret new show.

The star wrote: “Making my first TV show for 5 years.”

His last TV role was the US sitcom I Feel Bad, which aired on American network NBC back in 2018 but was cancelled after one series.

After The Inbetweeners, he starred in two BBC sitcoms, Zapped and White Gold.

Zapped was about a man from the real world who got trapped in a fantasy world and ran for three series from 2016-2018.

White Gold was set in the a UPVC window sales office in the 1980s and also starred fellow Inbetweeners actor Joe Thomas and Gossip Girl's Ed Westwick.

Last year, James disappointed die-hard fans of The Inbetweeners after revealing "there's not enough money in the world" to make him play Jay again.

Appearing on The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X back in January 2022, James was asked whether he would consider reprising his role.

The host asked: “If the people who wrote The Inbetweeners said ‘we’ve got a new script’ - it’s basically what everyone’s up to now - do you want to see it? You’d say yes?”

Despite recalling his time on the series as “the best job in the world”, James adamantly replied: "No."

An open-mouthed Moyles questioned: “You don’t even want to read it?”

Putting the conversation to bed, Buckley explained: “Not because I don't think I would have an amazing time doing it, because I know I would.

"It was the best job in the world, but it might - you know, as I'm getting older - it's looking like it might be the only thing that I do professionally that is universally loved.
