Per the outlet, when "asked directly" why Carlson had gotten an interview with Putin, Peskov said the American news anchor's approach was "in no way pro-Russian, it is not pro-Ukrainian - it is pro-American."

"Most Americans have no idea why Putin invaded Ukraine, or what his goals are now. They've never heard his voice. That's wrong. Americans have a right to know all they can about a war they're implicated in, and we have the right to tell them about it, because we are Americans, too," he said, in part.
The tweet has so far amassed over 83 million views.
Reuters reported that citing reports by The Wall Street Journal, Russia's TASS news agency said that the interview is "likely to be aired" on Thursday, February 8, 2024,
