Jordan Henderson admits Liverpool's confidence is "low" after their 3-0 Premier League loss to Brighton on Saturday afternoon.

The Reds were humbled at the Amex thanks to Solly March's brace and Danny Welbeck's late strike. The result leaves Liverpool eighth in the Premier League table and they will finish the day one spot lower if Brentford beat Bournemouth at home in the late kick-off.

Liverpool were expected to challenge the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal for the Premier League title this season but now face a battle to qualify for next season's Champions League. Jurgen Klopp's side are seven points behind Newcastle in fourth.

Speaking to Premier League Productions, Henderson was asked what went wrong on Saturday afternoon. He said: "Everything. Everything went wrong from the start to the end. Brighton were better than us in all departments. It's a real low point as a team.

"We have to stay together. It's a tough moment but we need to get together, stay together and try and change things quickly. We have to try and learn and show a reaction."

Henderson added: "There wasn't one thing [that went wrong]. It was numerous things and it hasn't been right for a little while now. Everybody knows that. We know we can be better. I'll take responsibility and the lads will. We have to try to put it right."

Liverpool started the season in the best way possible by beating Man City 3-1 in the Community Shield. They are also still in the FA Cup - with a replay against Wolves coming up on Tuesday - and the Champions League, where they face Real Madrid in the last 16.

Yet Liverpool were dumped out the Carabao Cup by Man City and have struggled to win games in the Premier League - winning just eight of their 18 fixtures this term. Henderson knows they need to start picking up points sooner rather than later.

When asked whether the Brighton loss was Liverpool's worst performance under Klopp since his appointment in October 2015, Henderson said: "Probably. I can't remember another one. A really tough day."

Henderson was then quizzed about the mood in Liverpool's dressing room. He said: "It's not good. We're pretty low on confidence. The energy level is low. Everything. We can't feel sorry for ourselves. We have to keep fighting and hopefully we can change it sooner rather than later."

The Liverpool skipper was also asked if their poor form is concerning. He didn't answer, but said: "Of course it's really disappointing. We know we can play better and give even more. But you have to keep working."

When asked the same question by the BBC's Match of the Day, Klopp said: "Yeah, how can you not be [concerned] after a game like this? I cannot stand here and say it didn't happen. Of course, we have to be very concerned about it."
