James Ward-Prowse insists there is no truth to claims that Southampton will let him leave if relegated.

The Saints took a step closer to the Championship with their 4-3 loss to Nottingham Forest on Monday night. Reports last month suggested the club had told the player he would be allowed to depart if relegated - but the England midfielder responded post-match at the City Ground.

"Nothing in that, no," said the Saints captain. "The club know my thoughts and my position in terms of what I want to achieve in my career, and nothing has changed within that despite where we are in the league.

"I want to give my all for this football club. and I always have done. Every time I put the shirt on I always give 100 percent and that's no different whether we lose our next game or we win it.

"For me, it's just being focused on where I am now and giving my all for this club, which I always have done since I was eight years old.”

Wolves weigh up Diego Costa deal

With Premier League safety assured, Wolves are weighing up whether to hand Diego Costa a new one-year deal.

The ex-Chelsea man has been a big hit with supporters and teammates alike, despite scoring only once following his surprise switch in the early part of the season.

Now boss Julen Lopetegui, with Raul Jimenez set to leave, is contemplating whether to keep the veteran former Spain international around.

Pukki keen on top flight return

Teemu Pukki wants a Premier League return after leaving Norwich.

The Finland striker leaves Carrow Road as a free agent after scoring 88 times in 210 games for the Canaries, who could only finish 13th in the Championship this term.

He said: "Obviously offers are going to come in in the summer and I will decide but I am open to a lot of things.

"If there is a Premier League club that wants me that could be an option but we'll see. I believe I have two, maybe three years left in the tank. I need something else for the last couple of years before it is all done.

"I don't know yet what this is going to be - and I need a holiday first. I probably won't answer my agent for a couple of weeks. If he calls for some other stuff I will be interested but not football!"

Doncaster’s new manager plans

Doncaster Rovers hope to announced a new head coach “within the next 10 days” after sacking Danny Schofield.

The League Two side wasted little time after seeing their season end on Monday by dismissing Schofield.

Chairman David Blunt said: “It is with the deepest regret that we have made this decision.

"Danny is a Doncaster lad and everyone at the club desperately wanted him to be a success here. His dedication, commitment and work ethic during his time at the club have been unquestionable. Whilst it is true Danny has not had the opportunities to build his own team, and the injuries have depleted the squad, we would have still expected to see a better turn of results than what has been achieved this season.

“In recent weeks, Danny has handled some difficult circumstances with the utmost dignity and has the respect and best wishes of all staff at Doncaster Rovers. We expect to announce Danny’s replacement within the next 10 days.”
