American television journalist Chuck Todd has announced that he will soon be leaving the NBC political panel show Meet the Press, with his replacement stepping in soon.

After almost 10 years of moderating the NBC panel show, Chuck has announced today (Sunday, June 4), that he "promised his family" he wouldn't let work consume him.

The 51-year-old NBC star told viewers: "I've watched too many friends and family let work consume them before it was too late," adding that he had promised his family he wouldn't do that.

Miami-born dad-of-two Chuck then added: "I leave feeling concerned about this moment in history but reassured by the standards we've set here.

"I am really proud of what this team and I have built over the last decade.

"I’ve loved so much of this job, helping to explain America to Washington and explain Washington to America."

Reports say that it is unclear as to when Chuck's final show moderating the panel will be, but he did reveal that this would be his final summer on the programme.
