A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a seven-year-old girl was seriously injured in a drive-by shooting outside a church in Euston.

The Metropolitan Police said the man was arrested after a car was stopped in Barnet shortly before 4pm on Sunday, and has now been taken into custody.

The shooting on Saturday left a seven-year-old girl fighting for her life while four women, aged 21, 41, 48 and 54 were also taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Officers attended the scene shortly afterwards along with medics from the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance.

A 48-year-old woman was treated and admitted to hospital with potentially life-changing injuries, police said. The 21-year-old woman was also taken to a central London hospital and is in a non-life-threatening competition.

Police learned at 2.05pm that a seven-year-old girl had been taken to a hospital in central London with injuries sustained in the incident.

A statement from Metropolitan Police read: "At 14:05hrs, police were informed that a seven-year-old girl had been taken to a central London hospital with injuries sustained in the same incident. She remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition."

They added that anyone who witnessed the incident or who has information should call 101, giving the reference 3357/14JAN.
