A man was beaten and racially abused by a stranger in a terrifying train attack.

The thug hurled racist comments at the man and repeatedly punched him before getting off the train at the next stop.

Police investigating the hate crime have released photos of a man they would like to identify.

The frightening incident happened in broad daylight on a Southeastern train travelling through South London.

Detectives say the attacker got off the train at Sydenham Hill station following the random attack in April.

The train was travelling towards West Dulwich Station.

Anyone who recognises the man or has any information is asked to contact the British Transport Police.

Officers believe that the man in the CCTV images could assist them in their investigation of the incident.

It comes amid an alarming rise in incidents of hate crime over the last year.

Police data shows there were 155,841 incidents of hate crime in 2021 to 2022, marking an increase of 26% compared to figures from the previous year.
