Iron Mike was joined by ESPN veteran sports journalist Stephen A. Smith for this week's episode of his popular pod.

And the chat quickly turned to exotic animals, and it isn't surprising, as Tyson is renowned for his love of unusual pets.

He famously owned three Royal Bengal tigers, with one starring on the big screen in the 2009 blockbuster The Hangover.

After discussing how he drove the tiger cubs back home for the first time in his Ferarri, Iron Mike revealed his dream pet.

He told a stunned Smith: "I wouldn't mind having a hyena for a pet. I would love to have one."

Smith fired back: "A hyena?! Which has no loyalty, no love?"

But Tyson plowed on: "You can train them like dogs.

"I saw this guy in Africa who was riding on their backs, playing with them.

"He just had to keep a muzzle on because their teeth are so sharp they could hurt you by accident.

"They can be domesticated to a certain degree."

Smith could only shake his head in response, saying: "You're you. You're one of a kind. I don't understand, man.

"For me, show me where they are so I can go in a different direction."

Smith is a regular on ESPN's First Take, where he is the outspoken lead analyst.

Earlier this week, he was begged to apologize by NBA fans after calling Nikola Jokic a "big tub of lard."

While Iron Mike recently revealed how he missed being the center of attention in boxing.

Speaking in April on his podcast, he said: "I just always wanted to be a fighter. That's all I wanted to do my whole life was be a fighter, nothing else.

"I miss this stuff, I didn’t think I’d miss it until I was at the weigh-in in Saudi Arabia for [Paul-Fury]. You miss being the center of attention."
