Iceland is shutting another store for good today after a string of closures across the first half of this year.

The frozen food supermarket's Beccles branch in Newgate, Suffolk will be closing its doors for the final time today when the store shuts at 6pm.

The closure of this site in particular was blamed on a decline in business at the store.

The Beccles site first opened in 2013 and was the frozen food retailer's 800 store in the UK.

After the closure today, Beccles shoppers will have to travel to Lowestoft to access Iceland products.

Once the Beccles site goes, the number of Iceland closures this year will total 11.

It's not clear at the moment whether more branches will follow suit later in the year.

In a statement about the closure, an Iceland spokesperson said: "Across Iceland and The Food Warehouse we have a portfolio of over UK 1,000 stores, and our retail estate has grown by nearly 200 stores over the last ten years.

"We typically open more than 20 new stores each year, creating many new jobs and contributing to the growth of local economies.

"At the same time, we continually review the retail experience offered to our customers and have always made a small number of store closures every year, as local shopping patterns change and shop leases expire.

"The business is currently trading very strongly, achieving record market shares."

Iceland has more than 800 branches and 153 Food Warehouse stores across the UK, and last year opened 24 new branches.
