ScotRail has announced that two people were tragically killed within two hours after they were struck by separate trains.
Emergency services raced to Bishopbriggs and Kilpatrick railway station to deal with two separate reports of a casualty on the tracks.
Rail bosses first tweeted at 1:31pm to inform passengers of cancellations and delays on the Glasgow to Edinburgh line after a person was hit by a train.
The public owned operator then confirmed that at 3pm it had to close the line between Dalmuir and Dumbarton Central.
The British Transport Police has since confirmed that both people were pronounced dead at the scene.

ScotRail confirmed on Twitter that emergency services are currently at the scene.
Trains travelling along this route have been suspended and are subject to delay. The tragic accidents resulted in severals routes being closed. Some of the routes have since re-opened.
ScotRail tweeted: "Unfortunately we have received reports of a person being struck by a train between Glasgow Queen Street and Croy."
It wrote later: "Unfortunately we have had reports of a person being struck by a train between Dalmuir and Dumbarton.
"We are working closely with emergency services during this time and will keep you updated."
A spokesman for the British Transport Police confirmed officers were called to the scene on Thursday at 1.18pm before alerting the emergency services and then had to attend another incident at 3pm. Both were not being treated as suspicious.
