Transfer news live - Bellingham update issued as Trossard offered to Arsenal

With just two weeks remaining in the January transfer window things are starting to heat up with multiple Premier League clubs hopeful of bolstering their squads.

Recent days have seen Manchester United confirming the loan signing of Dutch striker Wout Weghorst while Chelsea remarkably hijacked Arsenal's move for Mykhaylo Mudryk. The Ukraine star was unveiled at Stamford Bridge on Sunday after penning a whopping eight-and-a-half-year contract.

The Gunners are now seeking Mudryk alternatives as they seek to push on for their first league title since 2004 under boss Mikel Arteta. Liverpool are also in the market to sign a midfielder amid an alarming run of form while United boss Erik ten Hag has suggested that the Red Devils could delve back into the market.

Don't miss a beat with Mirror Football, as we bring you all of Tuesday’s transfer news right here.

Shakhtar criticise Arsenal's Mudryk tactics

Shakhtar Donetsk CEO Sergei Palkin has opened up on how Chelsea beat Arsenal to the signing of Mykhailo Mudryk this month – despite the Gunners being strongly linked to the player.

“Arsenal contacted the player almost one and a half months before they contacted us,” Palkin explained to The Athletic. “If you talk about Chelsea, they called me at the end of December and asked if they can contact Mudryk because they are interested in him and want to talk with him. I said, ‘No problem, you can contact him’.

“The first time they contacted him was around the end of December or the start of January. They contacted the player and the agent of the player and they met the financial conditions. Therefore, why did many people around it have the impression that Mudryk was going to Arsenal? It is because Arsenal contacted him and then Mudryk started to watch some games of Arsenal.

“But negotiations are negotiations. When you didn’t close everything, when you did not (close) the last dot, then you cannot finish the deal. Therefore it was just an outside visual impression that Mudryk is close to Arsenal.”

Magpies Malo move

Newcastle are eyeing a summer move to sign Lyon right-back Malo Gusto, say French media outlet Footmercato.

The 19-year-old is closing in on 50 first-team appearances for the Ligue 1 club and is a France Under-21 international – viewed as one of the brightest prospects in the position in world football.

It is claimed that Lyon would not be open to a January move but a summer switch is possible with Gusto out of contract in 2024.

Everton look to Arnautovic

Everton are evaluating a move to sign Bologna forward Marko Arnautovic this month, reports TuttoMercatoWeb.

The Austrian international was linked with a summer switch to Manchester United but a move collapsed after supporters raised concerns over the former Stoke and West Ham star’s previous comments.

Arnautovic has eight goals in 16 appearances this season and Everton remain desperate for attacking reinforcements with Atalanta’s Duvan Zapata also said to be a target through a loan move.

Diaby move?

Arsenal have been linked with a move to Bayer Leverkusen forward Moussa Diaby after missing out on signing Mykhaylo Mudryk to rivals Chelsea.

However, it has now been claimed that the Gunners are unlikely to get a cheaper deal for the France international, who has bagged eight goals in 22 appearances for the Bundesliga side this campaign.

Navas tipped for Al-Nassr

Cristiano Ronaldo could be reunited with his former Real Madrid teammate Keylor Navas with Al-Nassr opening negotiations to sign the goalkeeper from Paris Saint-Germain.

Ronaldo completed a stunning move to the Saudi Arabian club earlier this month and is expected to earn in the region of £173million per year. The deal comes after Ronaldo ended his relationship with United by mutual consent in November following a bombshell interview with Piers Morgan.

The Portuguese superstar fell out of favour under Erik ten Hag, who selected the striker from the start in just four Premier League matches this campaign as Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial were preferred up front by the United boss.

Arsenal offered Trossard deal

Arsenal have been offered the chance to sign Brighton ace and Belgium international Leandro Trossards, according to the Evening Standard.

The player wants to leave the South Coast club after a breakdown in his relationship with new boss Roberto De Zerbi. The Gunners have been offered the chance to sign the forward and Arteta is rumoured to be keen on the idea.

The Gunners will have to fend off interest from rivals Tottenham in the process, with Antonio Conte's men already having one bid for Trossard rejected after it failed to meet Brighton's valuation of the wide-forward.

Spurs offered up £12m, but Arsenal are thought to have been informed it would take at least £25m to tempt De Zerbi's side into parting ways with 28-year-old Trossard.

United open Rashford contract talks

Manchester United have opened new contract talks with star forward Marcus Rashford and are confident of tying him down to a five-year deal.

The England international’s current deal at Old Trafford runs through until the summer of 2024 after United recently triggered a one-year extension clause in his existing agreement. The club now want to agree a deal with Rashford which would see him commit his future to the Red Devils until his early 30s.

Rashford, 25, is expected to receive an increase on his £200k weekly salary but the club are not willing to break the £300k barrier for any contracts to decrease wage disparity within their ranks and make their outgoings more sustainable.

Arsenal snubbed by Raphinha

With Mudryk now out of the picture, Arteta has to try and identify some new targets that he feels can offer his side something new out on the attacking flanks.

Arsenal spent much of last summer keeping tabs on Brazilian international Raphinha while he was at Leeds United but the winger eventually opted to join Barcelona.

Given the Blaugrana's precarious financial situation, Arsenal had reportedly hoped they could try and lure the wide-man away from the Camp Nou but those hopes have been dashed quickly.

Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo claim Raphinha has no desire to leave Barcelona during the January transfer window despite a difficult start to life at the club.

The head coach shut down any talk of signings ahead of Tuesday’s FA Cup replay with Liverpool.

Paris Saint-Germain head coach Christophe Galtier has confirmed attacking midfielder Pablo Sarabia is poised to move to the Premier League, with Molineux his expected destination.

Flamengo midfielder Joao Gomes is also a target, with Wolves having already signed Matheus Cunha on an initial loan from Atletico Madrid.

“We will see, it’s true we have interest in some players but when they are here and our players we can talk about them, not before,” said Lopetegui. “I want to put the focus on our players. We don’t want to waste energy on other things. We will talk only about our players.”

Duran's price tag

Aston Villa are paying £14.75million to sign exciting Colombian teenager Jhon Duran from Chicago Fire.

Duran, 19, has scored eight goals and set up six more in 28 appearances for MLS outfit Chicago.

Villa, who are 11th in the Premier League, have moved swiftly to beat off top-flight rivals for Duran who could cost a further £3m in add-ons.

The deal is subject to Duran obtaining a work visa and it is considered a long shot that the ace will be signed and cleared in time to play at Southampton on Saturday as he is still in America.

But Villa boss Unai Emery, who has also paid £14m for left-back Alex Moreno, wants the starlet to compete with Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings upfront.

Duran has three caps for Colombia as a sub and came on in their win over Paraguay in November.

"Is this the right moment to strengthen? I can't see it," Klopp admitted earlier this afternoon. "We look outside as well, it's not as if we are stubborn and think that's it and we go with these boys until 2050."

Gerrard's ex-teammate cools Poland talks

Steven Gerrard's former teammate, Jerzy Dudek, has cooled speculation that the ex-Liverpool captain has seriously been offered the Poland job.

"As far as contact goes, so far Steven has only received one message from the PZPN (the Polish FA)," Dudek wrote in hs column for Przeglad Sportowy

"Steven thanked them for their message because he appreciates the interest. But it's difficult to treat one text message as a serious offer.
