Frankie Dettori is considering if there is “room to appeal” against the nine-day ban that rules him out of the ride aboard Emily Upjohn in next month’s Coral-Eclipse Stakes.
The Ascot stewards deemed Dettori guilty of careless riding aboard the King’s Saga in the Wolferton Stakes on Tuesday and suspended him from July 4 to 12 inclusive.
Dettori, whose mount hampered the James McDonald-partnered Cadillac, was due to ride the John and Thady Gosden-trained Emily Upjohn, William Hill’s 5-4 favourite for Sandown Park’s clash of the generations on July 8.
Now the Italian is in talks with solicitor Rory Mac Neice before deciding whether to contest the ban.
“I've got to consult my legal team and we'll decide whether I'm going to appeal or not,” Dettori said yesterday.

“If there is room to appeal, we will - but I’m not going to do it just to waste everybody’s time.
“I’m sad that I’m missing ‘Emily’. Rory has got the tapes and he’ll be looking through them today.”
Dettori, who endured a frustrating start to the meeting but rode his 78th Royal Ascot winner aboard Gregory in the Group 2 Queen’s Vase yesterday, added: “It's one of those things, the bend comes very quickly after the start and it can get very congested."
"It was at that point of the race that you are going into a bottle neck, especially when the false rail is out, and we all got together and I hampered McDonald.
“I’m glad nobody got hurt.”
