Just moments into the show, Michelle, 43, was reduced to tears after the judges made savage comments about her performance.

The star and her ice skating partner, Pavel Aubrecht, were the second pair to take to the stage and perform - but the panel didn't seem to be impressed.

The panel gave a low score of 19 to Michelle's performance.

Fighting back the tears, Michelle said: "I'm just so lucky to be here, and I'm sorry."

The judges all reassured her that she shouldn't be "disappointed" at her performance as she gave it her best shot and she should be "proud" of herself.

Dancing on Ice judge, Jane Torvill said: "There's nothing to be disappointed about, you shouldn't be sorry about anything because you did a good job out there - you should be proud of what you did."

She continued: "We saw some mistakes out there - but you carried on and you did some really difficult lifts as well, to be brave enough to do that - so just keep working at it and I'm sure you will get more confident as the weeks go on."

Those at home watching also seemed to agree with the judges about Michelle's first performance - as they took to Twitter to share their thoughts.

One wrote: "Michelle hardly touched the ice! 4 #dancingonice."

Another added: "Michelle may have potential but she's this years first one who spent more time in the air than on the ice. She could do this with more confidence #DancingOnIce."

A third penned: "At least Ekin actually touched the ice  Michelle spent half the dance in a hot air balloon male professionals need to push the women to skate on their own like the female professionals do to the men cause they can’t lift them!! Choreography is the issue  #dancingonice."

This comes after Michelle recently said she was "struggling" to skate after her long battle with addiction and her menopause.
