Former Manchester City wonderkid Shay Logan has returned to one of his former clubs to fix the floodlights as he pursues a new career after retirement.

Logan was a product of City's academy, breaking into their first-team squad in 2007, making his debut in a League Cup win over Bristol City that August. He appeared in the next round against Norwich City, before being sent out on loan to Grimsby, Scunthorpe and Stockport.

After that series of loans, Logan returned to Manchester but was forced to wait until February 2009 to make his Premier League debut. That appearance came on a trip to Portsmouth, which Roberto Mancini's team lost 2-0, though Logan did play all 90 minutes.

The right-back spent the following campaign on loan at Tranmere Rovers, making 39 appearances as he established himself in the starting line-up. That earned the Englishman a place in City's Premier League squad the following campaign before he was released in 2011.

After his release, Logan went on trial at several teams before joining Brentford, then in League One. He scored on his debut for the Bees and went on to make more than 100 appearances during his three seasons at Griffin Park.

A change in manager from Uwe Rosler to Mark Warburton saw Logan lose his place and he was sent on loan to Aberdeen in January 2014. That proved to be a highly-successful move, with Logan becoming a fan favourite.

He also lifted his first piece of major silverware, playing all 90 minutes as the Dons won the Scottish League Cup by defeating Inverness Caledonian Thistle on penalties in the final.

Logan made that move permanent in the summer of 2014 and he went on to make more than 200 appearances, being named in the PFA Scotland Premiership Team of the Year in his first full season at Pittodrie.

He joined Hearts on loan in 2021, winning the Scottish Championship that season, before joining Cove Rangers. He was again successful with the Toonsers, winning Scottish League One, though was also working as a plumber during his time there.

Logan has now opted for another switch in his career, one which has seen him return to former club Aberdeen. The former City star is now working on the floodlights at the Dons' Pittodrie home.

He revealed his return with a post on social media, filming a video hanging from the lights on the Richard Donald Stand. In the video, Logan said: “From playing under the floodlights to working on them. Absolute mile high, about 50 feet above the Dick Donald Stand.”

The other stands in the stadium can be seen below him as he wears a harness and a protective helmet. He also included other photos of some of his colleagues, as they conducted their work on the lights.

On LinkedIn, Logan is listed as a managing director at Loganwilson, with the former City star seeking work opportunities after completing courses in rope access, gas engineering and plumbing.
