LOCALS living in one of the luckiest towns in the UK have revealed why they think they'll win big next.

The Cheshire villagers say they basically all know someone who's landed a jackpot in recent years - giving them hope they'll be the next big winner.

The lucky streak has seen the town of Warrington named as one of the country's top 10 spots to land a lottery win over £50,000.

It comes after figures showed one person in every 945 has scooped a big cash prize since the National Lottery launched in 1994.

This puts the town seventh on the list of lucky areas for lottery players across the UK.

Couple Hannah Smith, 29, and Sean Brown, 34, play every week and are yet to get a big win.

But the pair say they won't be giving up anytime soon - they plan to keep trying in the hope some luck will one day come their way.

Hannah told The Sun: “Sean’s not lived here long so that his excuse.

“And although I’m from Warrington I only moved back two years ago.

"But my mum was part of a syndicate that won in the early 2000s.

“I know it was a large amount of money split between eight of them, so went on a couple of nice family holidays and my mum and dad both got new cars.”

In 2014, a syndicate of six work colleagues shared a £1.7m jackpot - but only when their winning ticket was checked six weeks after the draw.

Another of the town's big winners were John and Patricia Gill, who won £1m on Christmas Day, 2015.

Margie Doran, 72, has lived in Warrington for more than 30 years.

She said: “I just wish it could be me.

“It will encourage more people to play.”

Michelle Hoare said it was “excellent” Warrington was in the top 10 lotto payouts.

But, the 53-year-old admitted, she's never bought a ticket.

Michelle said: "I’ve never wanted to do it because I’ve always looked at it that nobody I know ever wins, or at least me.

“But obviously they do in Warrington.”

Shirley Bowden, 61, added: “I knew a friend of a friend who scooped the jackpot a few years ago.

“They won £40m and ended up moving to Gibraltar.”

Shirley said she didn’t play the Lotto regularly but might be tempted to buy more tickets in the future now she knew her hometown was among the luckiest in the UK.

The 61-year-old added: “It would be great to get a big win.

“I would be nice to never have to work again.”

Kathy Garrett, Winners Experience Lead at The National Lottery said: “It is wonderful to witness the incredible difference a big win can make to the lives of a winner and the people they care about.

“We travel to every corner of the country paying out big winners so I know there is luck in every corner of the UK and just having a ticket means it could be you next.”
