SKY has urged customers to relax after a spooky TV fault might leave some people believing their house is haunted.

"TV switching itself on in the middle of the night? It's (probably) not a ghost," Sky wrote in a Twitter post yesterday evening.

It can be alarming if your TV switches itself on in the middle of the night, especially if you've dozed off nearby.

But the broadcaster has urged customers that this is "probably" nothing paranormal.

Instead, there's a simple explanation.

It's simply your Sky Q box sending a signal to your TV when its restarting.

To stop it, you need to switch off the HDMI control and Consumer Electronics Control (CEC) on your telly.

If you're unsure how to do that, just follow these steps:

To switch off HDMI control, press Home on your Sky Q remote, select Settings and then click Setup.

From here, click Audio Visual, then make sure HDMI control is switched to Off.

To switch off the CEC capability on your telly, you'll need to do a bit of exploring.

This is because the location of the CEC option will vary from TV to TV.

However, the CEC should be located in either your TV menu, Setup, Settings or the source selection screens.

Once you've found it, make sure it's turned off.

That way, you'll avoid any spooky surprises when your TV starts blaring in the middle of the night.
