Prince Andrew has reportedly been told he can stay in his £30m mansion while ex-wife Fergie recovers from breast cancer.

The Duke has been in an ongoing battle over Royal Lodge, with questions swirling over whether he can stay living there being unable to afford a costly refurb.

But the bombshell news that Sarah Ferguson - who lives at the 30-room mansion with Andrew - has been diagnosed with breast cancer reportedly means plans to boot out the Duke have been quietly shelved.

The 64-year-old underwent a gruelling eight-hour mastectomy to get rid of the cancer, and is now recovering from the major surgery.

Andrew's battle to stay in the Lodge on the Windsor estate has been ongoing for months, with reports he had refused to leave amidst the King's plans to slash his £250k income meaning he won't be able to afford renovations.

The 63-year-old royal has been at the pile for 20 years since its former resident, the Queen Mother, died.

The lease on the home is due to last another several decades, but the building is reportedly in dire need of renovations.

Sources close to the Prince have said the King has told him he'll have to fund the work out of his own pocket - while also squeezing the family's budgets from the Privy Purse.

Uncertainty over the divorcees ability to stay at the home for now have been put on a backburner, royal insiders told Page Six.

Andrew also has the multi-million dollar settlement agreed with Jeffrey Epstein victim Virginia Giuffre last year, although The Mirror understands £2million of this was contributed by the late-Queen.

The settlement is not an admission of guilt and the Duke continues to deny any wrongdoing.

News that Sarah Ferguson had undergone treatment for breast cancer emerged last week, as it transpired doctors had spotted it while carrying out a routine mammogram.

She was discharged from King Edvard VII Hospital in Marylebone, London, on Sunday last weekend after the successful operation, as representatives said her experience "underlines the importance of regular screening".

A spokesman for the Duchess said: "Sarah, Duchess of York was recently diagnosed with an early form of breast cancer detected at a routine mammogram screening.

"She was advised she needed to undergo surgery which has taken place successfully."

He added: "The Duchess is receiving the best medical care and her doctors have told her that the prognosis is good. She is now recuperating with her family.

"The Duchess wants to express her immense gratitude to all the medical staff who have supported her in recent days.

"She is also hugely thankful to the staff involved in the mammogram which identified her illness, which was otherwise symptom free, and believes her experience underlines the importance of regular screening."
