An employee of a luxury residential block in Las Vegas is being praised for his brave actions after he took down a gunman who entered the building's lobby armed with a rifle.

During the terrifying ordeal in Turnberry Towers, the suspect, identified as 32-year-old Andrew Warrender, allegedly shot at an employee before his weapon malfunctioned, giving the employee an opportunity to defend himself.

According to the arrest report, from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police, Warrender managed to fire only one round before his rifle malfunctioned, with a casing getting stuck in the ejection port.

In an attempt to fix the issue, he allegedly aimed the rifle again but failed to discharge a bullet due to the malfunction. It was at this moment that the security guard seized the opportunity and shot Warrender in response.

Surveillance footage reviewed by the police revealed that Warrender left the building through a revolving door with his weapon before being shot by the security officer.

Responding officers discovered Warrender on the ground in front of the complex's main entrance.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department emphasized that the incident was an isolated one and that there was no ongoing threat to the community.

Lieutenant Noe Esparza with the Convention Center Area Command for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said: "I want to dispel any reports of any active assailant or any active shooter situations, that was not the case here today. The community is safe; this appears to be an isolated incident."

Warrender, critically injured, was immediately transported to a hospital where he underwent surgery and remained sedated for his recovery. He has been booked on suspicion of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.

Witnesses who work at Turnberry Towers revealed that Warrender was known to stay at the complex frequently.

One witness described him as "socially awkward" but found his possession of a rifle to be "very out of the ordinary."

Turnberry Towers is a luxury residential condominium complex located in Las Vegas, Nevada. It consists of two high-rise towers that provides a host of amenities, including 24-hour security, concierge services, fitness centers, swimming pools, spa facilities, tennis courts, and more.
