AN emotional Lewis Capaldi admitted on the Pyramid Stage that he is looking to take the rest of the year off to fully recover from his mental health struggles.

The Scot had made the brave decision to cancel all work commitments this month as he geared up for Glastonbury, having struggled mentally and physically.

Last night, after cutting his set short by six minutes as he battled with his voice, Lewis said: “I recently took three weeks off just because I have been non-stop since the start of the year and I wanted to have a wee break for my head and my mental health.

“I wanted to come back and to do Glastonbury because it is so incredible, so I just wanted to thank you all for coming out and watching us.

“I was s**t-scared but you really made me feel at ease.”

Referring to Glasto organiser Emily Eavis, he continued: “I am really sorry and I hope Eavis will have me back on because this has been a f*****g s**t show.

“I feel like I will be taking another wee break over the next couple of weeks so you probably won’t see much of me for the rest of the year.

“But when I do come back and when I do see you, I hope you are all still up for watching us and singing songs with us.”

Despite his vocal waning, there was no shortage of love in the field.

When he walked on stage, fans chanted, “Oh, Lewis Capaldi!” to the tune of The White Stripes’ Seven Nation Army.

Lewis opened with his new track Forget Me, from latest album Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent, before ending with chart-topper Someone You Loved, as the crowd basked in the sun.

In a heartfelt end to his set, Lewis, who first played Glastonbury in 2019, added: “It genuinely means a lot for me to be here. If I never get to be here again, this has been enough.”

With or without your voice at top whack, we will always love you, Lewis.

LIZZO: LIFE IS GOOD AS HELL

IT was About Damn Time Lizzo returned to Glasto, as she cast her magic.

Looking sensational in a leather bodysuit and green hair, the US singer opened her set with Cuz I Love You.

Hyping up fans before her hit Rumours, she yelled: “Where are my big girls at? Where are my real thick juicy b*****s at?”

But speaking to Biz on Sunday ahead of her set, she revealed she still has to pinch herself that she is one of the festival’s main acts.

She said: “When I first played it in 2014, it was in the smallest tent with about ten people. Now I am on the Pyramid Stage which is insane.

“Glastonbury has been a big part of my journey and it’s a message for everybody to never give up.”

Of life in 2014, she added: “I was sleeping in my car or sofa-surfing on friends’ couches – now I live in this incredible house and it’s all happened in less than ten years.”

She also counts Brit stars Adele and Harry Styles as pals.

She said: “Adele is the best drinking buddy – she is a great friend as well but we always have so much fun when we have a night out.

"The only downside is, I don’t always remember everything.”

She added: “I love the British accent but even though we speak the same language, it sometimes feels worlds apart.

"Especially when I am watching Love Island – I will have to text Harry (Styles) and ask, ‘What does don’t mug me off mean?’ ”

SHARLEEN STRUGGLE

TEXAS singer Sharleen Spiteri has opened up about battling sexism in music.

The Scottish star said she’s had to behave differently with men in the business to get her voice heard.

After her band’s Pyramid Stage set on Friday, she told Biz on Sunday:

“We’ve got Beyonce Adele – they’ve shifted ridiculous amounts, and everyone’s still like, ‘Look at her lovely dress.’ ”

She added: “I’ve worked with lots of men and you have to be a certain way when you’re in the studio.”

STOP THE MONKEY BIZ, ALEX

ALEX TURNER battled back from laryngitis to headline the Pyramid Stage with Arctic Monkeys.

But the band left fans disappointed on Friday.

They played a 90-minute set which included hits Mardy Bum and R U Mine?.

But festival-goers branded it “boring”, and some were even spotted yawning as frontman Alex slowed down the tempo of their favourite tracks.

One claimed: “He purposely sings out of time so a crowd can’t sing along. Didn’t think he’d do it at a festival, though.”

Perhaps Alex should take off his shades and take a closer look at the crowd next time.

MY GREN DAY OUT

TOM GRENNAN got all emotional during his set on the Other Stage, after new album What Ifs & Maybes went to No1. It’s his second record to claim top spot.

Speaking on stage, he said: “My album came out last Friday and I’m so thankful.

"I cannot believe it – the sun is shining and we’re here today.”

He revealed he had brought half of his hometown of Bedford to watch his set.

I hope they had a celebratory pint waiting for him when he came off stage.

GIVE IT SOME WELLY, POPPY

IT just wouldn’t be Glasto with-out a model strutting in the fields in a mini-dress and Hunter wellies.

Poppy Delevingne proved the look is as stylish as ever as she rocked a crochet frock to stroll around the site.

Speaking to Biz on Sunday about her top Glastonbury moment ever, she said: “I would say seeing Mumford & Sons a couple of years ago. I love their music.”

Others catching the eye as well as Poppy included Radio 1 DJ Vick Hope, presenter Laura Whitmore and actress Emily Atack who pouted for a pic as they shared a laugh.

STORMZY'S SHADY

STORMZY mingled with the crowds as he enjoyed the festival yesterday – sporting a pair of white love-heart shades.

He made history in 2019 as the first black British solo artist to headline Glasto but this year kept a lower profile.

Chatting as he strolled with pals, the Heavy Is The Head rapper admitted he was not up to camping, though.

He said: “I’m in a hotel across the road.”

Bit hot in a tent, I guess.

IS HARRY READY TO SURPRISE ’N’ SHINE?

THERE are whispers that Harry Styles could make a surprise appearance on the Pyramid Stage tonight.

The singer wrapped the UK leg of his Love on Tour concert series on Wednesday, and after playing in Belgium last night he has a mysterious gap in his schedule today before starting a series of gigs in Germany on Tuesday.

During his Cardiff concerts this week the As It Was singer stayed in Penarth – where BBC series Gavin & Stacey was shot – and snubbed posh hotels in favour of a humble, £193-a-night room.

Harry stayed at Holm House hotel on Tuesday during his two-night stint at the Principality Stadium, five miles away.

A source said: “He had his pick of all the hotels in the Welsh capital but wanted to stay somewhere away from the hustle of the city.”
